Reminder: Short work week starts with downtown parade craziness

Lions Club parade to close downtown Seattle streets
A warning for drivers in downtown Seattle:  Several streets will be closed Tuesday morning for a massive parade celebrating the Lions Clubs International.

The Lions Clubs International 94th International Convention, scheduled for July 4-8, brings between 12,000-14,000 attendees from 118 countries to the city. 

About 10,000 participants plan to march down 5th Avenue Tuesday morning, including 100 marching delegations, bands and floats. The parade starts at 10 a.m. on 5th Avenue and stretches from the Seattle Center all the way to the Washington State Convention Center.

Fifth Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. between Mercer and Pike streets. Parts of Pike and Pine streets will also be closed, as well as parts of 6th and 7th avenues. Parking on several streets will affected, as well as Metro bus routes.

Street Closures:

  • 5th Avenue – closed from 9:45 a.m. until the end of the parade (estimated 2 p.m.) between Mercer and Pike ( 5th Ave. from Mercer to Broad closed from 7 a.m. through the duration of the parade).
  • Cross streets to 5th Ave. limited to Metro/Sound Transit during parade.
  • Pike St. – closed between 4th and 8th Avenues.
  • Pine St. – closed between 4th and 7th Avenues.
  • 4th Ave. – heavy volumes expected.
  • 6th Ave. – partially closed, heavy volumes expected.
  • 7th Ave. – partially closed, heavy volumes expected.
