Seattle Police Tuesday night were looking for three people seen leaving the scene of a utility pole fire set at Harvard and E Pine. The pole was still smoking around 10:45p as the call came into police reporting the two white males and one white female wearing a hoodie seen leaving via Harvard. According to police radio dispatches, the three entered a Harvard Ave residence where “anarchists” are known to live.
Officers surrounded the Harvard Ave residence as the suspects tried to leave out the back and then through a window before heading back inside when they saw police, according to radio dispatches. One officer reported seeing a container of lighter fluid in front of the residence.
No word on arrests but we do know that police made contact with the suspects and were talking with them about the incident.
The pole was not significantly damaged.
CHS has reported on incidents of Capitol Hill utility pole arson over the years but never any arrests. Some were set by mentally ill people, others we were told were set to clear off layers of debris to clear space for future postering. The anarchist connection is a new one for us, however.
A couple houses north of Denny on Harvard Ave E perhaps? The timeframe fits, and they definitely had the place surrounded. Here’s a photo I took: –was wondering what was up. The cops snuck up on the place
This is yet another reason (among many) for those who poster to pay attention to the City’s regulations…in this case, to not put a poster on top of another poster….they build up, sometimes inches deep, and therefore become “fuel” for arson.
In my opinion, the postering regulations are a reasonable compromise between those who want unfettered postering, and those who would like to re-instate the poster ban. Unfortunately, these regulations are almost completely ignored.
Perhpas when caught we can set these rats on fire? That would teach them.
The power pole ignited will never be defeated!
We should have more utility pole postering. The neighborhood isn’t nearly trashy looking enough.
By that logic can we then staple multiple flyers to the jackasses that are stapling over and not removing old posters?

This was not anarchists, for sure. It was a drunk street kid.
Anarchist / drunk street kid.
What’s the difference?
“This was not anarchists, for sure. It was a drunk street kid.”
One could never be both, of course.
There is NO difference between anarchists and drunk street kids. For sure this is the truth.

Only silly anarchists play with matches. Now go play on I5 with the other kids.
Well, yeah. The donut shops were all closed, so what else did they have to do?
Both ideas sound just fine to me…
