Blotter: Roanoke Park burglary cluster, E John air gun assault, mostly quiet Cal Anderson

  • Police are investigating a cluster of four residential burglaries that were reported within blocks of each other last Sunday. In one incident on Broadway Ave E, the burglar apparently entered the house through an unlocked living room window as roommates slept inside. No details yet on what was stolen. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more reports from the area down near Roanoke Park.

  • A woman walking to work early last Saturday morning told police she was shot at by a group firing an air gun from their car near 23rd and E John.

On 9/24/11 at 0529 hour I was dispatched to the  located at  East John Street to investigate a shooting involving an airsoft pellet gun.   called 911 to report that a group of individuals shot at her from a vehicle with an airsoft pellet gun while she was walkingto work in the area of 23rd Avenue East and East John Street.

I contacted   at the   store where she relayed the following.   stated at 0445 hours she was walking WB on the north side of the street in the   block of East John Street when a maroon colored vehicle drove past her from behind.  The vehicle then did a partial Uturn at 22nd Avenue East and East John Street and ended up backing up slightly onto 22nd Avenue East.   said the vehicle’s position made it so that she was walking directly towards the driver side door.  described the vehicle as a maroon 80’s style boxy 4 door car with tinted windows.   stated the drivers window was down and she could see at least two young black males in the two front seats.  said that the driver had a doo rag on his head and that he pointed a gun at her and fired.    said she was startled and the pellet grazed her right pant leg, but did not hit her fully on the leg.  said the vehicle then took off at a high rate of speed SB on22nd Avenue East.

stated she was afraid and called her boyfriend to come and pick her up and give her a ride to work, but she kept walking and made itto work before her boyfriend arrived.   also advised me that whenshe arrived at work an intoxicated male was outside of the store and stated he had been shot, but the person had since left the store.   then called 911 to report the airsoft shooting.   stated she was nothurt and did not require medical attention.                     Officer Hynes performed an area check for the vehicle, but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

  • Cal Anderson has been relatively quiet. The only recent violent crime reported in the park was this strong-arm robbery that reportedly happened early last Wednesday morning but wasn’t reported until Thursday the 22nd.
