Man says stabbed at Cal Anderson basketball courts

In a story that has perhaps unnecessarily fanned the flames for those concerned about the safety of Cal Anderson Park, SPD says a man was stabbed in an incident involving a blood spattered Harvard Ave E building’s hallway and elevator, a pile of burning bloody clothes in an apartment inside that building and the man’s story about an assault he says happened on the basketball courts of Cal Anderson.

According to SPD, after receiving a call about a domestic violence incident on Monday night around 11p, officers went to an apartment in the 600 block of Harvard Ave and discovered a trail of blood leading through the building to the elevators and up to a second floor apartment. After knocking on the door and no answer, the officers used a key from the building manager to enter the apartment. Inside, they found more blood including a pile of bloody clothing burning in a pile. As the officers attempted to extinguish the flames, the smoke set of the building’s alarms and Seattle Fire was dispatched to the scene.

After a check of area hospitals, the victim was located at Swedish First Hill with a three-inch cut to his left forearm. The man told police he had been at Cal Anderson’s basketball courts when a man who had been “playing” with a knife became enraged and attacked him without provocation. The man told police he then ran home to his apartment. As for the pile of burning, bloody clothes, the man told police he had been smoking and must have dropped his cigarette.

We’re looking into this to see if any arrests were made. We recently reported on an effort to increase SPD presence in the park and we’ve already heard a few stories from people about the recent “stabbing.”

Ever notice most who hang out on the ball courts aren’t from around here. Southend wannabe gangsters coming to the hill to start trouble. It’s the only part of the park you should avoid.

Well, this guy lived in an apartment on Harvard Ave E, right?

I play b-ball on the courts all the time. they are usually better maintained than other outdoor courts around here.

the only part of Cal Anderson I avoid is the bathrooms, because I’m not a heroin user. Those bathrooms are a Junkie condo.

This story does not seem to hold together. I’m waiting for more information.

“how can you tell by looking at someone that they aren’t from around here?” [spiffy d]

1. They’re smiling
2. Eye contact
3. Look like they have a job
4. Normal sized glasses
5. –>>NO FEDORA, esp NO TEENSY FEDORA RIDICULOUSLY PERCHED ON TOP OF THEIR HEAD<<--
6. They appear conscious of their surroundings
7. Sober
8. Not smoking a cig
9. Actual substance and depth rather than mere pose
10. NO FEDORA
11. They’re likeable

If the person in question displays one or more of these traits, they aren’t from Capitol Hill.

Blood, wound, medical attention – direct accusation by the wounded guy …

What is not to get? No, he is not dead.

Serious assault with a deadly weapon.

Fess up, sdf: you wear one of those teensy fedoras ridiculously perched on top of your head, right?

Btw, neither am I prejudiced nor “predujiced.” When it’s only one word, sdf, do try to spell it right.

What I don’t get is why he got stabbed — “just cuz?” That’s just like the ER trope of “two dudes” beating the shit out of you whilst you were taking your grandmother to church. Also why no one saw him get stabbed whilst playing basketball in one of the busiest parks in the city. Also why he waited to seek medical attention (although he might have feared for his safety. Fair enough.) Anyway, the whole thing doesn’t make a lot of on-the-ground sense as this particular story was told. It’ll be interesting to learn why this happened the way it did, if we ever learn the story.

A crazy type playing with his stabber decides to use it. You said something, looked at him wrong, or he thinks you look like his hated father.

Who knows, all, all and all, are possible. Or, they were sex buddies, love on the rocks.

In all cases it is assault with a deadly weapon if anyone stabbed him, except his own careless use of a blade.

Serious stuff. Stay tuned.

There’s got to be more to this story. The police were responding to a “domestic violence” call, and nothing in the guy’s account would indicate this type of incident. And I don’t believe for a minute that the burning clothes were a result of his dropping a cigarette…it’s much more likely he was intentionally trying to burn them.

Something’s fishy here.

OR…..
*Guy selling drugs.
*Customer stabs him and dashes.
*Guy says “WTF!” and bolts off to Swedish to get attended to.
*Before leaving torches drug-residued clothes
*Stabber already long-gone
*While at Swedish, victim invents silly story to explain
(something better than, “I was doin’ a deal, when….”)

“domestic violence” could’ve been the noise and struggle the neighbors heard in the scuffle that resulted in the stabbing. Just one possible scenario of many.
