Old School Frozen Custard donating 9/11 profits to Wounded Warriors

cookie dough custard, originally uploaded by jayandlaura.

E Pike’s Old School is rolling out a special flavor and donating the day’s profits to support injured service members on Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks:

This Sunday, to recognize and honor the 10th anniversary of 9/11/ 2001, Old School will create a special Flavor of the Day — Red, White and Blue, and donate net proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org).  Both our Capitol Hill and Bonney Lake  stores will participate in this effort to give back to the wonderful service people who have given their all to keep us safe here at home.  Red, White and Blue will be made by layering fresh blueberry and strawberry purees with our homemade, pure vanilla frozen custard.  Come commemorate this day with us, and help contribute to the Wounded Warrior Fund.  And thanks to America’s first responders, service men and women from all of us at Old School!

For more 9/11 remembrances on Capitol Hill and at the Seattle Center, see our weekend reminders post.

Why don’t they donate it to an organization trying (but never succeeding) to patch up the gaping wounds America’s imperial revenge quest has made around the world? I hate this day because the rabid nationalism and commercial opportunism drowns out any authentic attempt to find reason, meaning, or serious theory on how to prevent this type of thing. How about some closure? How about we just drop it because nothing we are doing is fixing it anyhow?

Also, gas guzzling Hummer in the background. Nice touch.

Nice gesture, but “profits” is kind of a vague thing on a daily basis. What if you are not profitable this day – no donation? Why not donate the day’s sales? Almost like it’s a marketing gimmick thingy.

Why not just shut up and not sound like a dick? Capitol Hill residents number one contribution to the neighborhood is to complain about everything at every opportunity.

I agree, quityerbitchin. Even if it doesn’t turn out to be a huge amount of money, it’s more than anyone else is doing (probably including you).

If a business is going to try to get free publicity and good will by promoting something like this, I think it should be something substantial – not some hard-to-prove, arbitrary number like “profits” which can really mean anything an any given day.
