With reports of whirring hums, low rumbles and peculiar vibrations causing concern among neighbors just below Interlaken Park, Sound Transit has scheduled a community meeting for Tuesday night to discuss the situation in Montlake.
Thank you for your recent message about noise and vibration issues due to light rail tunneling activity in Montlake. We are having a community meeting tonight to discuss these issues, and hope you can attend. Below is a message sent last week to some of your neighbors who also complained about these issues, and inviting them to the community meeting.
Sound Transit’s meeting on noise and vibration issues in the Shelby/Hamlin and Boyer Ave. neighborhoods will be at the Montlake Community Center: 1618 E. Calhoun St. tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. We will be in the old building out front.
Project Executive Director, Joe Gildner, and other key Sound Transit staff will be there to walk you through the information we have received and the steps we are taking to address your concerns.

Last week, CHS reported that Sound Transit believed it had identified the source of the problems related to the light rail tunnels bored beneath the neighborhood in recent weeks and that the agency was taking steps to eliminate the noise and vibrations by changing the machinery being used to truck materials in and out of the tunnels. But complaints have continued through the weekend, according to a neighborhood message board, and some residents believe the shaking is damaging their homes.
A Sound Transit representative told CHS last week that no settling in the area has been detected and that monitors in the area do not indicate any structural issues with the two tunnels being bored from Husky Stadium to the Capitol Hill station at Broadway.
We have not talked to anybody from the agency about tonight’s meeting. Sound Transit did not send notice of the Tuesday night meeting to the media.
