Morning fire damages 23rd Ave E home — UPDATE: Arson investigation

UPDATE: The fire has been determined to have been intentionally set. From SFD:

A Seattle Fire Investigator determined the fire was intentionally set. This morning, somebody set fire to the couple’s unlocked car. Seattle Police Arson and Bomb Squad Detectives were called to the scene to collect forensic evidence.

Original Report: Seattle Fire fought to control a blaze in a two-story 23rd Ave E home Friday morning that shut down the major arterial.

Roads were closed near 23rd and Thomas as crews brought the fire mostly under control in just under 30 minutes after the initial 6:57a call. A check of the home showed nobody was inside. Neighbors said they were unsure if the home at 410 23rd Ave E was currently occupied. UPDATE: An elderly couple lives in the home and were able to escape the fire without injury this morning.

The house suffered significant damage in the fire but no estimates were yet available. An adjoining garage was also damaged.

An investigator was headed to the scene to determine the cause.

A week ago, a home across the street was damaged in a fire caused by an overheated chimney.

The fire destroyed the garage behind the house, and damaged the house.

I walked by at 9:30 this morning and there were police walking into the house that burned a week ago, while firefighters dealt the house from last night’s fire. Hopefully this is just a weird coincidence, but it’s a bit scary as we only live a block away.

That’s a scary thought—I live a block away, too.

I also live not far away. It says that the fire last week was caused by an overheated chimney.

Isn’t there an ‘anarchist’ contingent squatting in a house near there?

Hmmm…
