Capitol Hill 2012 fitness resolutions start with new gyms (and a free massage)

We can’t really recommend the CHS editor workout. The foot beat and biking up E Pine part of things might help you out. The potato-sack posture and diet of cheese covered carbohydrates and coffee will not. If you are thinking about seeking professional help after that last sad visit to your bedroom mirror, here are a few ideas from around the Hill including some sparkly bright new facilities to inspire you — and, yes, like the headline says, a free massage to reward you.

  • 14th Ave gym Mode of Fitness is expanding with Mode Studio upstairs at 1508 10th Ave next to the Urban Influence offices. There are open houses on Friday and Saturday until 7p and Sunday from noon to 5p.  You can check out the class list and membership prices here. The new mini-gym is set to open for business on January 9th.

  • Anytime Fitness Capitol Hill has opened in the space we wrote about over summer next to Trader Joe’s. You can learn more here.
  • If you prefer to work out next to a pie shop, Barre3 has a studio in the Trace building. You can learn more here.
  • We called 10th Ave’s Foundation CrossFitPE class for adults.”
  • For a workout on north Broadway — and a sculpted tush — there’s Lab5 Fitness. Class schedule and fees here.
  • Yogis might consider 8 Limbs Yoga at 500 E Pike or Seattle Yoga Arts in the Pearl building on 15th.
  • 19th Ave E has two options. Emerald City Aikido (a CHS advertiser!) and Strength Studio.
  • A new Capitol Hill massage school is offering free massages to help make sure your body is relaxed and ready your new 2012 workout regime.

The Discoverypoint School of Massage is offering free seated massage on Saturday, January 7th from 11 am until 2 pm. When you stop by to get a quick massage, you can also check out their space and classes. Whether you want to learn a few basic techniques to help your friends and family relax after a long day, or are looking for a program to become licensed as a massage practitioner, Discoverypoint has classes for you.

Besides a Professional Licensing Program, their Discovery Series offers a variety of classes that teach basic yet effective massage techniques for the neck and shoulders, back, or hands and feet. There’s also a class that teaches special techniques to help the athlete in your life work out some tight muscles after a hard workout or competition. Plans for future classes even include Massage for your Dog.

Discoverypoint is located at 420 E. Pike Street, in Suite 3. Learn more at discoverypointschoolofmassage.com.

  • The city’s community centers are again running the “Try It for $2” promotion that lets you try a class out for 2 bucks and decide if you like it before signing up for the full course. In our area, you can check out the class schedule at 19th Ave’s Miller Community Center or hop over to Garfield. You can search for classes here. We think you might enjoy a little Tai Chi.
  • You can also check out http://seattle.fitropolis.com/ started by Capitol Hill entrepreneur Troy Kaser to search for fitness deals around the city.
  • There are more including the Broadway Gold’s Gym — let us know in comments if your gym or studio is doing anything special this month to get Capitol Hill moving.

I jsut started going to Anytime and really like it. It’s small and simple, but you can’t at 24 hour gym! And it is well kept up. One annnoyance-the TVs on the cardio equipment are kind of fussy. I am real lazy, I need some TV motivation to get on a treadmill!
