On busy night, in cramped quarters, SFD takes care of E Denny Way apartment fire — UPDATE

(Image: Warwick Patterson provided to CHS)

Despite initial confusion about the location and a challenging, cramped area to set up hydrants and maneuver large firetrucks and emergency vehicles, Seattle Fire was able to bring an apartment fire under control early New Year’s Day on E Denny Way before it spread to the rest of the four-story building.

Crews responding to The Caravilla apartments just after 12:40a found flames shooting from a third story apartment and proceeded to battle the blaze.

Warwick sent us a picture from the scene and this account of the incident:

Just had a bit of NYE excitement here on Denny Way at Belmont. Full fire department response to an apartment building fire. Significant smoke coming from the building, but they seemed to get it under control fairly quickly. Picture attached.
Cheers,
Warwick

A search of the apartment revealed nobody inside and there were no major injuries associated with the fire.

The blaze came on an incredibly busy night for Seattle’s emergency crews as fire and medic responses and multiple shootings kept units busy in the first hours of 2012.

Rough way to end/start the year on multiple counts. Hopefully the tenant had renter’s insurance. To lose a pet and all your stuff that way…heartbreaking.

The stuff can be replaced easily, most likely. More of a loss on the pet. I recently lost my cat (she was old) but I’d gladly trade my meager belongings to have her back.

I only need $10,000 to clone her and not sure if that’s even available anymore.

Don’t leave flamable stuff in front of your Baseboard heater! Not only is it dangerous, it’s less efficient, which means more money on the power bill.

And while we’re at it, don’t forget to vacuum them. Your place will smell better.

My cat was across the hall alone through all of this, surprised he isn’t in the window watching all the action take place.
Our windows are early 70’s modern and suck the heat out of the apartment.
The baseboard heaters automatically cut on if the windows get under 50F which is where the thermostat starts. Also the reason I don’t have anything ever close to them.
After my panic subsided upon returning home I spent the rest of my new year’s day appreciating my cat.
