Copper anniversary — Capitol Hill’s ‘married’ warehouse stripped in scrap metal rip-off

The Capitol Hill warehouse made world famous by a woman’s attempt to save it from demolition by marrying it just can’t catch a break. Not only did the wedding fail to save the structure from being torn down to build a new apartment building, but somebody broke into the site over last weekend and stripped $600 worth of “copper pipe, wiring and copper from transformers and electrical boxes” in the old building’s basement. The SPD report on the burglary is below.

Saved the demo crew some money

Normally I wouldn’t sway this way but since the building is going to be demolished the thief might have saved the demo crew/developer/property owners some money by removing some of the property.

I’ll bet it was someone the building knew. Have the police talked to the building’s wife?
