Crews work all night to reopen Broadway at Madison (pancake day goes on)

Metro work crews continued to work early Tuesday morning to reopen the intersection closed when a dump truck ripped through electric trolley lines Monday at Broadway and Madison.

Damage in the area was so extensive that Metro says it has had to build new parts at the scene to restore the system.

Police at the location moved into their third shift of providing traffic control following the start of the incident Monday around 2:30p.

Bus service in the area remains re-routed with Route 12 to Interlaken Park being served by shuttle beginning at 6th and Madison.

Metro has not yet provided an estimated time for when their work will be completed and the road re-opened but said workers are “in final stretch” via the @kcmetrobus Twitter account.

Most importantly, of course, the nearby IHOP free pancake day benefit for the Children’s Miracle Network is still a go. A representative for the restaurant said it had already collected $12,000 in donations as marked by the paper balloons decorating the restaurant.

Perhaps when the Metro crew’s work is complete, everybody can stop if for a stack of hotcakes.
