TV producer turned designer bringing new shop to Capitol Hill

Looks like we have an answer about the new design store coming to 12th Ave to replace the departed Revival Home and Garden. Former television producer Jason Mathews says he’s bringing his Sheridan + Company design business into the brick and mortar world with a 12th Ave store inspired by his fascination with favorite shops in Chelsea and Portland. “Each space has a joie de vivre that inspires me so much that I can never leave without buying something,” he writes. “I’ve always wanted to take a little piece of each shop owner’s energy and style home and I want Sheridan + Company to do that for you.” Here’s his post on the venture:

I got started in interior design with my stint at The Early Show at CBS News.  What started out as a career in hard news turned into producing cooking, gardening and home segments and feeling really….well, at home.  I enjoyed working with the editors at some of my favorite magazines like House & Garden, Real Simple and Martha Stewart Living and their enthusiasm for “home” related topics started to rub off on me.

At The Early Show I also worked with and met amazingly talented entrepreneurs like Mark Israel of  Doughnut Plant, Amy Scherber at Amy’s Bread and my friend Scott Pactor at Appellation Wine & Spirits (I talked to John Darien about doing a segment on decoupage, but my senior producers didn’t think it would “catch-on.”).  They all discussed how much hard work went into owning a business and some even admitted to being exhausted, but they all agreed they couldn’t imagine doing anything else.  That’s when the idea of owning my own business started to grow.

Aside from being closer to our families and friends, starting my own business was one of the biggest reasons Michael and I moved back to Seattle.  We dabbled with a few ideas and did a few cupcake catering gigs but nothing seemed like a good fit.  I was becoming more and more fascinated about homes, how people live in them and ways that we could make all the elements of interior design work together.  So the stars have aligned to take Sheridan + Company to the next level:  a brick and mortar shop on Capitol Hill in the heart of the Pike/Pine corridor on 12th Avenue.  I can’t wait to fill the space with my favorite items for the home including new and vintage furnishings and continue our interior design service.  We want to help make your home a place for beautiful everyday living and inspiration.

Over the past few years there are two (what I call) decorating shops that I’ve followed very closely —Apartment 48 formerly in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood (now online) and  Cielo in Portland’s Pearl District.  Each space has a joie de vivre that inspires me so much that I can never leave without buying something.  I’ve always wanted to take a little piece of each shop owner’s energy and style home and I want Sheridan + Company to do that for you.

Stay tuned for all the details and if you haven’t already please “Like” us on Facebook and suggest us to your friends and family.  Soon I hope you’ll count on us for all your home decorating dreams!
