Pike/Pine East — Vita ready to pull first shots in Manhattan

We’ve posted in the past about the E Pike invasion of NYC. On Monday, Manhattan will get its first dose of Caffe Vita:

The front of the shop is equipped with a la Marzocco GS2 espresso machine that dates to the late 1970s, a workhorse that powered the rise of Seattle coffee. (The GS2 was the machine of choice in the early days of Starbucks.) “We went to a lot of trouble to get that on the bar,” said Mike McConnell, the owner of Caffé Vita. He said the cafe bought the machine from a friend, only “to find out later it wasn’t his to sell.” After some tricky third- and fourth-party transactions, the GS2 made it to Manhattan.

The new Vita is part of a newly expansive spirit for the Seattle coffee pioneer. As the New York Times notes, Caffe Vita will open in Los Angeles later this spring. The flagship remains on E Pike, of course. Originally opened as Cafe Paradiso by Anne Michelson in the old Anderson Tool Supply building, McConnell brought Vita to E Pike from Queen Anne in 1998 and finally acquired the building in 2006 for $1.9 million.

The New York location neighbors a Via Tribunali and a Pike Street Fish Fry.
UPDATE:
Thanks for the update in comments. We see Vita replaced Pike Street in the plan last summer.

Bimbos and Super Genius surely can’t be far behind. We’re not sure what would happen to Big Mario should he venture into the Lower East Side but we’re guessing it’s not a good idea.
