Another large Seattle power outage touches Hill — UPDATE: Weather hell breaks loose

10th Ave E north of Aloha and a small patch of Broadway joined about 14,000 customers around Seattle without power Tuesday afternoon. City Light says it’s not known what caused the outage but said they expected service to be returned by 4:30p. You can keep track of system disruptions at http://seattle.gov/light/sysstat/ — if you charged up your Internet device, that is.

Add the North end of Bellevue Ave to that list of power outages. About two square blocks (including my house on Bellevue Ct E) were out as well today.

Did anyone else find the Seattle City Light outage hotline (206)684-7400 wouldn’t work for you? It has a new system which tries to determine your location from your phone number, except it didn’t recognize my number (I tried 2 different phone lines) and wouldn’t give me any information.

There is also a System Status web page which relies on a Google map that wouldn’t load on my mobile. I emailed City Light with some friendly feedback.

Great shot of the boys duking it out 2v2 style in the snow.

Yes, how would they know where you are from your mobile phone number? My carrier doesn’t even know where I live – all they have is my PO Box #.

The online map was working for me yesterday. I didn’t try to call them but I assume they use GPS info from your phone to track you. Seems like an unreliable system.

My post was a little unclear… I actually called from 2 different landlines (plus the web page on a mobile phone). The system asks you to confirm that your calling phone number is the outage location, or you have a chance to enter a different phone number. My landline still isn’t recognized though.
