Blotter | Terra Plata deck ripoff, ‘artist’ busted at abandoned house, naked Broadway

  • Terra Plata decktop ripoff— A burglar waltzed onto the rooftop deck of Terra Plata at some point over the weekend and ripped off more than $3,000 worth of tools and construction equipment. According to SPD, officers were called to the Melrose Market Sunday afternoon when the theft was discovered. It’s not clear how the burglar accessed the roof and managed to carry off the bulky booty though one witness did report a suspicious man seen in the area.
  • Naked man on Broadway — Sightings of a naked man on Broadway lit up Twitter Friday night. We haven’t followed up with SPD on the incident but did find record of a lewd conduct investigation at Broadway/Pike. So, yeah, basically, that story your friend told you is true.
  • Kudos to SPD: Neighbor Casey reports on a minor incident near 12th and John early Monday morning that may have kept a few of you awake —

Last night starting at around 3:30 AM, on the slope of John St. just past the 12th Avenue intersection, a transient began a disturbance last night in which the SPD had to be called to resolve. He had in his possession a metal pot, which he started banging against his head (!!!) in regular, rhythmic intervals. After about 10 minutes of this ruckus, a nearby resident either called out an open window, or called out from the street to him “Shut the hell up or I’m going to call the cops!” To which the transient became aggressive and started squealing and screaming incomprehensibly.

Less than 5 minutes later, two SPD officers had the man calmed down, standing in the middle of the street near the intersection. They talked with him, in an attempt to sooth his behavior, until they could bring the Mental Health Services wagon (I assume, he had moved out of the range of my upstairs windows by that point) and the situation was resolved without violence by 4 A.M.

“it’s refreshing to see a Seattle Police Officer defuse a situation with an even-toned, compassionate manner, when they very easily could have tased the man because of the risk of him trying to bash the officers with his metal pot,” Casey concludes. “Kudos, SPD for keeping us safe at night!”

  • Mysterious robbery: SPD took a report from a man they found in the 900 block of E John Friday night bleeding from already bandaged wounds from a previous assault. The man told police he had been robbed of $300 by multiple assailants Friday night. No suspects matching the victim’s description or other witnesses to the crime could be found, the SPD report notes.
  • SPD busts ‘artist’ leaving abandoned home: A man who told police he was “an artist” was arrested for investigation of burglary after being spotted leaving an abandoned 1600 block 20th Ave house the night of Sunday, March 18th:
  • The old ‘pine branch’ trick: SPD was called to a 10th Ave E job site to investigate a wily ploy that resulted in the theft of nearly $1,500 worth of tools:
  • Other burglaries: A woman contacted police on March 19th to report her 12th Ave storage unit had been burglarized. No details on what was stolen were available. Another victim told police her 1998 Subaru Legacy was ripped off from her secure parking garage in the 300 block of 10th Ave sometime between March 18th and March 20th. Police responded to a home alarm on the 19th and found a busted window but no burglary in the 2500 block of E Lee. A witness reported seeing a silver Hyundai driven by a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks. A burglar made off with more than $1,200 worth of electronics and goods in a March 12th home break-in in the 300 block of 22 Ave E.

Some guy watched me plant some veggies at Thomas St. Gardens yesterday. I eventually let my guard down for about ten minutes because I saw him fiddling with the combo lock on the tool shed and figured he was actually a gardener. When I turned around he was gone but had left his pants on the ground.

Maybe it’s the warm weather prompting people to remove their clothes? Whatever the reason, I don’t like it.

I hate it when you let anti-Occupy trolls bait you into food fights, but this was awesome.
