Moisture Festival (finally) comes to Capitol Hill

How could the Moisture Festival — a Seattle celebration of old time variety shows and classic burlesque — take so long to get to Capitol Hill?

“We’re a 95% volunteer organization,” the festival’s Rhonda Sable tells CHS. “We try to sort of pop into a neighborhood for a couple of years.”

Sable said with stage time finally open at the Broadway Performance Hall, the ninth edition of the festival can finally include Capitol Hill in its performance schedule. And they’re bringing the good stuff with two performances of the all-ages Grand Varietè shows and two weekends of the Libertease burlesque performances.

As home to many of the city’s performers and the training ground for the Academy of Burlesque, Moisture should find appreciative — and knowledgeable audiences — on Capitol Hill.

“I think of Capitol Hill as the urban hub of Seattle — a great place for alternative entertainment,” Sable said. We’re likely, therefore, to see more Moisture in 2013.

Heaven forbid you should have to venture into the hinterlands of Ballmont or Frellard. Just bring a valid passport and you’d have been allowed north of the ship canal but now the show has come to you.

It’d be nice to credit the performers in the photos. I’d like to see them, but it’s hard to know which night they perform :(
