More than 1 million children descended upon Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park Saturday afternoon for an egg hunt of epic proportions never before attempted by the Seattle Parks System. In scenes reminiscent of the landing on Normandy and the opening of the new downtown Nordstrom Rack, children divided into battalions by age group and stormed the grassy bowl in the south end of the park. Their mission: collect a share of the 7 million plastic eggs spread about the lawn by Parks volunteers. Some eggs were hidden in plain sight while others were deviously camouflaged behind blades of grass and sun-sparkled morning dew.
By most accounts the budget-minded solution to combine the volunteer-powered community center hunts from around central Seattle at Cal Anderson went off successfully. Participation was reported as high but we still need to get an official count. For now, we’re going with our 1 million estimate. More pictures from the fun, below.
seriously? 1 million?
Dead serious. 1000000 kids in Cal Anderson. It was bigger than obama’s inauguration.
I would seriously contest that number — it had to be *at least* 1.5 million. It was a madhouse!
