One view of Mayor’s Capitol Hill Town Hall

We started with a rousing rendition of a union song that would have done Pete Seeger or Woodie Guthrie proud.

The remarkably sparse crowd was then treated to a series of long and rambling questions from audience members (including a couple from professional wackos) which were answered with long and rambling answers from the Mayor. Often drifted off into State/National/Global issues none of which were IMHO really what we elected the guy for.

Hardly anything about the mundane day-to-day business of patching the streets and keeping the Community Centers open.

It’s sad that Seattle seems to be trending toward Manhattan exclusivity and no one came out to call the Mayor on it? Sorry I had to miss this meeting because I want it to be clear that without rent control, dramatically increased government-backed housing or some other downward mechanism on housing and real estate in our great city, we’ll be running ever more families, artists, creatives and everyday folk out of this increasingly exclusive city. :-( WAKE UP FOLKS! Let’s not lose Seattle to monied interests and single professionals. Sigh.
