Sitting at the open heart of the Melrose Market, Bar Ferdinand seems like the right candidate to lead a second birthday celebration for the market — and itself, of course. The Matt Dillon project adjacent his Sitka & Spruce in the popular, local-focused shopping and dining development debuted in July 2010 not long after the market opened that spring. It’s an open space to have a glass of wine — or coffee — and a good vantage point to watch the way Melrose Market works. With the rush to stack more apartments on Capitol Hill, it’s hard to imagine a development like the Liz Dunn-driven market happening here again. Meanwhile, the project will be surrounded by new development for the next three to five years if all the projects in the works nearby come to fruition. Hundreds of new Capitol Hill residents will be within a short walk of the market, Bar Ferdinand and the tenants from Still to Terra Plata that have seemingly thrived in the showcase space for Capitol HIll’s food and drink culture. It’s the new Capitol Hill, some might say. We’ll just say happy 2nd birthday. Details on Sunday’s party are below. Please, no gifts.
