11th Ave church’s electronics recycling drive to benefit Community Lunch

Thursday afternoon, you can drop off “pretty much anything with a plug” at an 11th Ave event that will both raise funds for an important community resource and help give Capitol Hill residents a better solution for getting rid of that old TV than leaving it on the corner of 15th and Denny.

Here are the details on Thursday’s recycling drive from Central Lutheran’s David De Block

I’m working with 1 Green Planet (http://www.1greenplanet.org/) which is a local non-profit that picks up the recyclable electronics for free and keeps materials and any potential profits within the Puget Sound area.

My youth group will be staffing the event and taking at-will donations to benefit the Community Lunch on Capitol Hill (CLCH) (http://www.communitylunch.org/) and the Youth @ Central (Y@C) 11th and 12th Graders get to Holden Village for a Youth Weekend Retreat called Let Justice Roll (http://www.tlc.edu/cyfcenter/cyf_ljr.html) where they will talk about how to repair a broken environment. The Y@C are also going to volunteer at the CLCH the following morning which many of them have done in past years.

We Will Be Accepting:

• Appliances – washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.

• Electronics – televisions, stereos, etc.
• Scrap metal, machinery – metal parts, etc.
• Computers (Secure Data Destruction) PCs laptops, printers, monitors, etc
• Batteries – car, computer, etc
• Medical equipment
• Ink & toner
• Cell phones
• Vehicles

The drive will run from 2-7p — later, De Block says, to cater to the Hill’s diverse work schedules. Central Lutheran Church is located at 1710 11th Ave across from Cal Anderson.
