Woman charged in bloody knife and hammer attack inside Capitol Hill apartment

A woman with a history of drug use and mental illness has been charged for her violent attack with a hammer and a knife inside a Capitol Hill apartment late last month that left her victim with bloody stab wounds to her face, head and hands as she attempted to defend herself from the onslaught.

Jamie Melissa Fuller was charged with first degree assault for the December 20th attack insider her victim’s 600 block E Olive St apartment.

Fuller, who had been booted from the Mental Health Court program for violating her treatment program only days before the attack, was found with a severe cut to her hand and carrying a still-bloody knife in her purse when she was taken into custody.

Police arrived at the early morning attack to find the victim with stab wounds to her face and head as well as with cuts on her hands from the struggle with fuller. The victim said she had known Fuller but didn’t want her around because of her ongoing drug use. She said Fuller arrived at her door just after 3 that morning and dragged her from the apartment before attacking her with a hammer. After a struggle, Fuller ran into the apartment and returned with a knife.

“Help me, help me. She stabbed me, she stabbed me,” the 911 caller told police he heard the victim screaming as she ran to him.

Prosecutors requested an increased bail of $150,000 on Fuller citing her history with the Mental Health Court and past assaults as well as the violent nature of the alleged attack. An additional burglary charge was also filed against the Belmont Ave resident. She is currently in custody. The 38-year-old Fuller will have her opportunity to enter a plea at next week’s arraignment.

When does it end? WHEN do authorities and “experts” get a handle on this kind of bullshit? We have a bona fide crisis on our hands in the USA, thanks, in part to Reagan-era gutting of the mental health system. WHEN does it get put back together again so those who are ill get the aid and buffer fro the rest of us that’s needed?! Mayor McGinn… anything? Council… hello? Anyone?
