Man fails in attempt to mug boxer outside of Capitol Hill gym

A man heading to Capitol Hill’s Seattle Boxing Studio last Wednesday found himself practicing his punches while fending off a mugger outside the gym, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to police, the man was entering the Capitol Hill studio, located at 1431 Broadway, around 10:30 AM when another man came up to him and grabbed his gym bag.

CHS profiled the basement-level studio in this post.

After a short struggle, the robber let go of the bag, but then lunged forward at the victim, according to police. The trained boxer then used his jabs and power punches to strike the would-be mugger who also threw punches but never made contact with him, the man told police. The boxer suffered a sore hand in the assault — police say it was possibly broken when he struck the alleged thief in the face.

The attacker eventually walked away, but police were able to locate him nearby and arrest him.

… it’s definitely in front of a boxing gym. I mean, what are the chances someone going in THERE could defend themselves?!

And also score one for the police officers. Another successful arrest. Take note, SPD-bashers!
