Mayor in tight race with undecided candidate

In a hypothetical Seattle Mayor’s race with a candidate who hasn’t officially announced his running, Mayor Mike McGinn is in a tight spot, according to a Survey USA poll commissioned by King 5.

In the poll of 647 registered voters, McGinn tied with former King County executive Ron Sims, who hasn’t declared his candidacy but rumored to be thinking of it, with 15% of the vote. UPDATE: Sims says he won’t run.

  • Undecided – 34%
  • Mike McGinn – 15%
  • Ron Sims – 15%
  • Tim Burgess – 10%
  • Bruce Harrelll – 5%
  • David Ishii – 0%
  • Kate Martin – 3%
  • Ed Murray – 9%
  • Charlie Staadecker – 1%
  • Peter Steinbrueck – 7%

The margin of error was 3.9%.

If Sims doesn’t run, the poll shows McGinn earning 19% of the vote, Burgess increasing to 11% and Steinbrueck getting 10%. Murray dropped to 8%.
