Upscale Capitol Hill fashion retailer trades parking for new subterranean men’s shop

Screen shot 2013-03-25 at 1.01.31 PMWhile we’re celebrating 40 years of Elliott Bay Book Company — and three so far on 10th Ave — another 10th Ave neighbor is just getting started with its new venture. Fashion retailer Totokaelo has put what was part of the lower level parking garage to work hosting its new TotokaeloMAN line, the male counterpart to the company’s successful women’s fashion business.

The down-under expansion opened Saturday.

CHS last visited Totokaelo last summer to check in on the growing fashion retailer. Like Elliott Bay, Jill Wenger moved her store to the Hill from Pioneer Square. It has a strong online following and does much of its sales through its totokaelo.com site.

CHS looked at the business of fashion retailing on the Hill earlier this month. New, larger players are joining the economy this spring as local players have continued to up their games.

Guys, here’s what you’ll find at Totokaelo MAN:

We are super excited about our expansion into menswear. Our designer lineup includes many of the  designers featured upstairs, including Maison Martin Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, Rick Owens, Undercover, Jil Sander, Acne, APC, Robert Geller, Saturdays, Hope, Wood Wood and Levi’s Vintage.

According to the blog post, Totokaelo will also roll out a new ecommerce site for men, soon.

The fun times on 10th Ave will continue soon — 24-hour “dive” diner Lost Lake is rounding into shape in what was once the Basic Plumbing bathhouse.
