Seattle Promise, state’s first community college scholarship, will give 3.0 students much-deserved free ride

Dignitaries will be on hand Tuesday morning at Capitol Hill’s Seattle Central Community College for the launch of the Seattle Promise scholarship program, the first program in Washington to offer academic scholarships to students at a community college.

The program is designed to support students who return to Seattle Central full time and and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

The Seattle Central Foundation program is funded through contributions from Safeco and Boeing and will support more than 200 students with full-tuition scholarships beginning later this year.

CHS reported about the changing mix of enrollment at Seattle’s three community colleges including SCCC earlier this year. Seattle Central is also working with legislators in Olympia to power a proposed new nursing program in conjunction with Pacific Medical.

The Seattle Community Colleges school at Broadway and Pine enrolls nearly 10,000 students annually.
