Rock Your Pod contest rewards creative aPodment dwellers

With Capitol Hill-inspired changes coming for the regulation of Seattle’s microhousing, aPodments, the city’s industry leader has taken to social media to reward creative ‘pod decorators and give people a look inside some of the more unique spaces in the company’s local portfolio of buildings.

The Rock Your Pod contest on the aPodments Facebook page promises “a big prize” for the micro-apartment that garners the most likes before June 25th.

They look like shitty dorm rooms. Which is what I expected.

Isn’t this just a marketing effort on the part of apodment developers, to somehow make a futile attempt to make them more acceptable?

The phrase “putting lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig” comes to mind.

Thanks guys! Those living in micro-housing appreciate you taking time away from your incomes to give us that firm classist “pat on the head”.

Give John a break. He may not realize that opposition to Apodments is not “classicist” but at least he didn’t cry out NIMBY in the dark.

Creative use of spaces.

Not sure why people care what people do behind closed doors or that their places resemble dorm rooms. It’s their choice to live there. If people refused to rent them, developers would stop building them.

I live in 582 sqft, not sure I could squeeze into much less but kudos’ to those who can and do.

My only dislike of aPodments is the high price per sqft and the developers who skirt around land use/environmental impact reviews.

Hopefully their “a big prize” is a full sized apartment.

I think the developers could go even further by putting the toilet in the living area, instead of a separate room, or perhaps shared dorm style bathrooms like they share kitchens? The possibilities are endless here to create even more efficient and smaller mole holes. The pictures were fun to see, I am always curious to see how others live.

Friends and I discussing the always volatile topic of aPodments this evening and we were taken back to a different era, an easier more naive time where the Dark Crystal was an escape for the youngsters…I give you podlings, as described on Wiki:

The Podlings, or Pod People, are a simple, kindhearted race in The Dark Crystal. They live in The Village of the Pod People, located in the forests of Thra.

These look lovely! I’m a huge fan of small homes, and I’ve been wanting to see pictures of more “aPodments” for a while now. My husband and I live in 500 square feet (we could definitely fit in something smaller, if the space was used wisely); if I were single, though, I would love to live in one of the aPodments! The lack of a fully functional kitchen is what would be the biggest deterrent for me, though. I think the city needs to look at these types of homes and find some middle ground (i.e. less expensive units, more kitchen options- even if it’s just a convection microwave, and research into environmental and community concerns).
