• UPDATE — Summit OD: Seattle Fire guided a 911 caller through CPR but the victim of a reported drug overdose in a 1400 Summit Ave apartment died Wednesday afternoon, according to emergency radio dispatches. We’re following up with SFD to learn more about the incident. Seattle Police were also dispatched to the building — standard procedure following a death. This summer, CHS reported on a spike in heroin overdoses on Capitol Hill and around the country. UPDATE: SFD confirms that a male was found dead at the scene and tells us a 31-year-old woman suffering from a possible heroin overdose was transported to Harborview in stable condition.
• E Pine beer bottle melee: Turns out, Sunday morning’s damage at Hot Mama’s wasn’t the only rampage on E Pine in recent days. A Seattle Police report documents a beer bottle-fueled melee that broke out in the 600 block of the street just after last call early Friday morning. SPD arrived to find a rather fashionable assailant:Police also found the victim’s vehicle complete with a busted windshield witnesses said was caused by one of the beer bottles thrown by the angry suspect. According to witnesses, the fight broke out with a thrown beer can after a night of partying went sour when the suspect wasn’t invited to share in a newly purchased pack of beer from the nearby corner store:The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for investigation of assault.
• Magazine crew on Capitol Hill: Here’s a warning from a Capitol Hill neighbor about the apparent return to the area of a magazine marketing crew with some questionable sales tactics. In the past, SPD has encouraged residents to call 911 to report questionable door-to-door sales activities using similar tactics.

I have never reported an event to any news source in my life but I can’t help but think of other people in our neighborhood who might answer the door and be far less prepared to cope with similar circumstances.

This afternoon at approximately 4:30 PM I had a knock on the door.  I thought it was my neighbor because in our small townhome complex we have locked gates and someone has to let you.  The woman was selling magazines, representing a company named D&T Connections out of Georgia.   However, the opening spiel does not talk about magazines but instead is a very manipulative clever approach that sash shay’s its way through what appears to be a program to help young people.

I am sympathetic to the hardships that many people experience and ‘giving people second chances’ as the young woman was requesting.  However, after checking the name of the Company online while she waited on my front steps, I declined to participate.  She then became belligerent, dropping her earnest demeanor and I saw her out of the gate to my home.  Due to her abrupt about-face, I then looked into the Company a little more and found the following Houston Press online news story from March 2012 below.  Today she had her hair pulled back but I recognized her face and first name.

I don’t know if you can post something in your blog for people to be careful.  I’m not sure if this person is concentrating on homes in North Capitol Hill or other areas as well.  Unfortunately, I don’t how many elderly people read your blog.  I just think they may be more vulnerable.
