Woman’s purse ripped off in Belmont Ave E gunpoint robbery

A woman had her purse stolen at gunpoint in a midnight armed robbery near the 1000 block of Belmont Ave E.

According to East Precinct radio dispatches, a 911 caller reported just after midnight that a woman came to the resident’s door and said she had been robbed minutes ago nearby.

The victim told police the suspect held a silver pistol as he stole her purse before fleeing on foot before possibly leaving the area in a waiting vehicle. The suspect was described as an Hispanic male in his mid 20s to 30s, around 5’7″ and wearing a striped shirt and tan khaki shorts at the time of the stick-up.

The victim was not injured in the robbery.

A K-9 unit was dispatched to the area to search for the suspect but no arrests were reported.

Relocating in a week after 13 years on Capitol Hill. I won’t miss the sad Bellevue-ization of the neighborhood, the obnoxious gits drawn by the “lively” night life scene, the Amazon-drone-fueled rent inflation, and most of all, the armed robberies that keep getting closer and closer to home. It’s been real, though.Ta ta!

Well said, especially about the over saturation of bars-as-nightlife and the any-excuse-to-raise-rents rental market.

Is that address correct? That places it in a very residential neighborhood (corner of Bellevue Place E and Belmont Ave E as it goes down the hill towards Lakeview). It sounds more like something that would take place on Belmont between Pike and Olive. But it can’t be 1000 Belmont Avenue (not East) as it stops in the 1400 block at Union. I guess that means it’s just as dangerous to walk quiet neighborhood streets at night as it is in Cal Anderson Park.

Don’t talk shit about Belmont between Pike and Olive. The place that is real trouble is Summit between Pike and Olive.

The crowd from the Lookout – a very busy bar on that corner – begins to clear out to their cars (parked in the surrounding residential area) nightly between 11:30 and 2 am. I would think they would be equally vulnerable as the people walking in the Pike/Pine Cal Anderson area in those post -bar hours.
