Neighbours party to honor Seattle Gay News publisher Bakan

A big personality in Capitol Hill’s gay community — and beyond — will be celebrated Monday night in a party including City of Seattle dignitaries and community leaders at Broadway’s Neighbours nightclub. Seattle Gay News publisher George Bakan will be honored for his “lifetime and continued achievements of leadership and community Service.” The publisher and activist celebrated his 72nd birthday in October.

Please join Seattle City Council member Tom Rasmussen, former Seattle City Council member Sherry Harris and Social Outreach Seattle (SOSea) Founder and President/Seattle Gay News Associate Editor Shaun Knittel on November 11, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Neighbours Nightclub (1509 Broadway) for AN EVENING OF APPRECIATION HONORING GEORGE BAKAN.

BAKAN, a longtime civil rights, HIV/AIDS and LGBT activist as well as publisher/editor of the Seattle Gay News, is being honored for his “Lifetime and continued achievements of Leadership & Community Service.”

This award ceremony and honor for GEORGE BAKAN is open to the public; BAKAN’S friends, fellow activists, and peers are highly encouraged to attend.

Throughout his many years as an activist and community leaders BAKAN has been directly involved with HIV/AIDS prevention and search for a cure, LGBT civil rights (employment, housing, marriage), is a U.S. Navy Veteran, worked on countless campaigns as a chair or co-chair, organized the Pride Parade, and so much more. He is a man that very much deserves this honor. Your attendance is most welcome.

This is a 21+ event; Live entertainment, a full bar, and refreshments will be made available to guests.

There will be a table at the event where cards, notes of congratulations, and gifts could be set aside for Bakan until the end of the evening.

George Bakan has asked that guests make a donation at the door to Social Outreach Seattle (SOSea), a social justice nonprofit that he has supported since its inception.
