It is tradition. Civic officials celebrate the clash of their Major Metropolitan Area gladiators by wagering emblematic examples of each region’s finest resources. We’re a little confused, then, why Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will be presented with some of Capitol Hill’s finest thrift after his team is *defeated* Sunday in the Super Bowl.

E Union’s Lifelong Thrift Store seems to win no matter how the game plays out. Here’s how Lifelong explained its role in the wager to CHS:

If (when) the Seahawks win, Mayor Hancock will send Mayor Murray Denver green chili, skis and a Broncos item to auction off to support Lifelong. Mayor Hancock also agreed to wear an outfit from the Lifelong Thrift store.

One of the outfits is “grandpa chic” while the other is more “Sherlock Holmes mix and match” according to Corinna Troll, the thrift shop associate who styled the outfits. “We wanted to pick out an outfit that somebody would actually wear in Capitol Hill – something that represented Seattle’s funky side.”

As far as fashion goes, the biggest Seahawks fan Sunday is likely to be Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. If his team loses, he’s doomed to wearing Bronco PJs in public — an outfit that somebody also would actually wear in Capitol Hill, to be honest.
