SPD investigates shots fired incident at Seattle U

A search for a reportedly shoeless gunman seen after gunshots on the Seattle University campus early Sunday morning temporarily locked down the campus south of Capitol Hill and sent police tracking multiple suspects through nearby streets.

One man seen in the area openly carrying a pistol after the pre-5 AM gunshots was taken into custody near 14th and Spring. Another suspect described only as a white male in his 20s, wearing dark clothing, and no shoes was seen after the shots were fired at Seattle U. Police and a K9 unit were unable to track that suspect.

University security locked down the campus during the search until around 5:30 AM, according to East Precinct radio dispatches.

There were no reported injuries.

Police received 911 reports of the gunfire from across the southern Capitol Hill area.

UPDATE: Here is the “all clear” message sent by Seattle U security to campus. The details mostly line up with information we’ve previously gathered though the SU bulletin states the shooting is believed to have not occurred on “campus property.” We’re trying to find out more about the situation from SPD.

On 9/7, at approximately 4:45 am, SPD responded to a shots fired call after receiving multiple reports of gunshots being heard in the area of Broadway and Madison Street. Two separate suspects were described, and one was apprehended at 14th and E. Spring Street. SPD conducted a thorough check of campus, using multiple officers and canine units and has determined that there is no current threat to campus safety.  At this time it is not believed the gunshots were fired on campus property.  DPS will continue regular patrols of the campus area.

I live a block away and heard the gunfire. It’s getting fairly routine now.
