SPD announces arrests in connection with East Precinct armed robbery spree

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 4.13.18 PMSeattle Police detectives say they have made a key arrest of a teen suspect believed to have been involved in “numerous” East Precinct armed street robberies.

SPD announced Sunday afternoon that two teenage suspects — one 15, the other aged 17 — have been taken into custody and booked into juvenile detention for this November gunpoint robbery in a Seattle University parking lot.

Police say the 15-year-old is believed to be involved in multiple cases under investigation in the area. Earlier this week, CHS reported on a swarm of street robberies in the area involving armed suspects and sometimes violent attacks including this late November hold-up in which two victims were robbed and pistol-whipped inside Volunteer Park.

Police were able to retrieve surveillance video of the suspects and a Crown Vic-style getaway car in the first hold-up in the string in the SU parking lot. Just minutes following the Volunteer Park hold-up, a road rage incident at Broadway and Roy also yielded valuable clues as a witness was able to provide police with a license plate for a vehicle matching the getaway car’s description involved in the altercation.

The victims in the Volunteer Park robbery described their attackers as two black males in their early 20s, both wearing dark hoodies and dark pants. One was carrying a handgun. A third older male was described as a black male in his 30s, heavyset and wearing a black t-shirt, baggy blue jeans, and gold chains.

Police say the investigation of the robbery spree continues.

Because they’re old enough to know what they’re doing, that it’s wrong. And there’s no excuse to give them the break a younger kid who might not know any better might deserve. Why NOT?

Why not? Because they’re not adults. Put your pitchforks away, people.

IMO…existentially speaking, we all learn soon after birth; right from wrong. It’s forever embedded in us and we know their differences w/ the (exception being the criminally ill). Knowing when you’re doing wrong, choosing to do so and following thru with your actions isn’t excusable because you’re not 21. Frankly, I’m one who is beyond tired of the excuses for these delinquents! I do not have all the answers but, I bet I’m not alone in my POV.

Good work, SPD. Now, please, let us see them tried as adults (nothing juvenile about armed robberies) and after conviction, let us not see the prosecutor or judge drop the mandatory firearm enhancement of the sentences for robbery.

Glad they got these folks. They’ve got a long way to go. Just tonight somebody got bashed on the way home from the bar. I’m sick of it.

There is a lot of SPD-bashing on this blog, but as this case illustrates they often do a great job.

At least 3 perps are off the street (for now). Unfortunately, there always seems to be another group of criminals who popup to take their place….there seems to be an endless supply.

Those usual cop bashers never have much to say when something like this happens. All things being equal I’ll trust the cops over the anarchists to at least try to keep me safe.

Actually, only two off the street. I really hope they rat on the third guy, who was the one who flashed a piece at me and my child.

Sounds like these kids are part of the gang that has been doing all sort of crime around Pike/ Pine. There are at least 20 active members. The SPD ignored this issue for years, hopefully they keep up the emphasis patrols and keep making arrests.
