• Hate crime charge filed: A 28-year-old man has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly attacked a transgender woman in Cal Anderson Park last month. Peter Trovesi pleaded not guilty to malicious harassment and assault during his arraignment Monday.  A trial has been scheduled to start August 24th.

According to police reports, officers responded to a disturbance call at Cal Anderson Park on July 23rd. A witness told officers that Trovesi approached one of his friends, a transgender woman, and began arguing with her about her sexual identity. As the woman walked away, the witness said Trovesi ran up behind her and dumped a cup of ice over her head. He then punched the woman several times in the head, the witness told police.

SPD’s LGBT liaison officer was called to the scene, but the victim and Trovesi had already left the area. Trovesi was able to elude police until later that night when officers found him when responding to a domestic violence call on Capitol Hill. Officers recognized his name and booked Trovesi into King County Jail for malicious harassment.

  Detectives obtained a photo of the suspect and are asking anyone who sees him to call 911.

  CD home invasion: Detectives are investigating a Tuesday home invasion and burglary at 20th and Yesler where a woman reported being restrained but not injured. From SPD’s Blotter:

A woman called 911 just after 10:30 a.m. today reporting that a man had broken into her home. She told officers the suspect forced open the door, restrained her, and stole some cash and electronics. The victim said the suspect quickly fled allowing her to escape and call police.

The victim was not hurt during the robbery.

Robbery detectives are now speaking with neighbors and collecting evidence. The victim says the suspect was a mid-40’s black male with a heavy build. If you have any information please call detectives at (206) 684-5535.

UPDATE 8/18/2015: Police have arrested the suspect in the case after the 59-year-old man flagged down a patrol officer in the 7500 block of Martin Luther King Jr Way S. on Saturday and turned himself in. The man said he knew his picture had been on TV and that he was wanted by police for the robbery.

• Frustrated tagger: Seattle police arrested a man on August 1st for tagging inside a Capitol Hill construction site. Officers responded to a call by the security guard at the 11th and E Union construction site who reported seeing someone hop a security fence. Police found a man with spray paint who admitted to tagging inside the property.
• Second story sucker punch: A man fell from a second story balcony at a Pike/Pine nightclub August 2nd after a man allegedly sucker punched him in the head. Officers initially found the victim unconscious and bleeding. Witnesses said he had been arguing with two other males, one of whom punched him.Witnesses identified the suspect and he was booked into King County Jail.

• Sleepy auto thief: Seattle police arrested a man Sunday morning for auto theft after witnesses called 911 to report a man sleeping in an idling truck inside a Capitol Hill parking garage. Here are the details from the SPD Blotter:

Officers arrived at and found the driver and truck slowly pulling out of a garage in the 1400 block of Broadway. Officer Brad Devore stopped the truck and took the 36-year-old suspect into custody. The man said he had just purchased the truck from a “friend”, but couldn’t describe the seller. Officer Devore searched the truck and found additional items inside the truck that were potentially stolen, including an ID and credit card belonging to a victim of a car prowl just days earlier.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of possession of stolen property and an $80,000 warrant.

 

• CD home burglary: An afternoon invasion of a Central District home left a trail of rifled through drawers and a broken-into safe, but nothing that immediately led to a suspect. According to police reports, on August 2nd officers responded to a 911 caller who reported finding of a pried open plastic safe in an alley near 18th and Alder. Officers discovered it belonged to a nearby homeowner and went to the house, but no one was home. When officers checked the back of the house they found a wide open door. Inside, officers reported seeing drawers and a jewelry case strewn about. Officers contacted the homeowner and locked up the house.
