  • 23rd/Union shots fired: A volley of gunfire rang out Saturday night just after 10 PM in the Midtown Center parking lot at 23rd and Union. There were no reported injuries but residents in at least two houses in the area reported that bullets may have struck their homes. One report came in to 911 from a home across from the center while another was reported at a home two blocks to the northwest. Police found “multiple” shell casings near the retail stores in the parking lot and were looking for two vehicles seen leaving the area following the shooting. Both vehicles were described only as a red and a white older sedan. The shooting took place only yards away from one of the surveillance cameras placed in the area by federal agents in an effort to quell gun violence. UPDATE: We asked ATF about the incident. “We will not acknowledge any active investigations and would not comment on them,” an ATF spokesperson replied.

  • Package thief’s big score: A package thief lucked into a major score in an overnight October 7th break-in reported at a building in the 500 block of 19th Ave E. According to the SPD report on the rip-off, a thief picked up a package containing $30,000 in medical equipment. The building is home to the offices of the Country Doctor medical clinics. According to the report, it was an easy job:Screen Shot 2015-10-18 at 12.49.40 PMIn addition to the expensive medical gear, the thief also scored some fashion. Two missing packages reportedly contained Steve Madden scarves.
  • Break-in spree: Police investigated a strange string of burglaries reported by homeowners in the 1900 block of 14th Ave E in which somebody broke into three different homes but, apparently, didn’t bother to steal any of the most valuable items left lying around. Here’s what SPD found at one of the homes the night of October 3rd:Screen Shot 2015-10-18 at 1.18.03 PMSimilar means were used to enter two other homes in the area. Only one victim reported missing items after finding some old jewelry was missing.
  • Repeat burglary victim: Burglars are creatures of habit and opportunity. The victim in a felony-level storage locker burglary reported October 3rd at a building in the 300 block of 10th Ave E told police it was the second time in recent months that his unit had been busted into.Screen Shot 2015-10-18 at 12.32.50 PMBuilding staff told police that they were reviewing security video from the week when the break-in occurred but the SPD report on the incident notes no cameras were found near the burgled unit. Parking garage and storage burglaries have surged in Central Seattle in 2015.
  • Dry cleaner burglary: An E Olive Way dry cleaner told police that an overnight October 2nd burglary netted the thief an odd booty of customer belongings — and a set of golf clubs:Screen Shot 2015-10-18 at 12.44.29 PMThe representative at All Seasons Cleaners told police the building had been accessed when a burglar busted out two panes of glass.

Considering that Country Doctor serves a lot of low-income and uninsured people, I hope that thief is real proud of himself.

I agree wholeheartedly. Robbery is bad enough but stealing from this particular entity that goes out of its way to accommodate so many is absolutely unforgiveable. Hope this perp gets caught trying to sell the equipment and goes to jail.

We regularly make sure doors and gates in our building shut completely due to finding them damaged every other month.
