You only have a few more days to enjoy the last drive-thru coffee stand on Capitol Hill.
That we know of.
Saturday is slated to be the final day of business at TNT Espresso, the 80-square-foot coffee shack in the parking lot of the teriyaki joint at Broadway and Harrison. Owner Monica Anaya — or Momo, as you might know her — is going out in her own style, in full defiance of what she says is the seemingly unstoppable wave of change washing over Broadway.
“I had a good time while I was there,” Anaya told CHS earlier this month. “I don’t hang my head low. I walk away with pride. I got to get out before somebody kicked me out.”
We asked her about the possibility of selling the business with a month-to-month agreement and history at the corner dating to before the mid-1990s but Anaya said she probably wouldn’t be interested. If you’d like to change her mind, stop by for a last latte and some conversation about all things weird and wonderful on Broadway. Anaya and her crew have probably seen it all.
This lady always made me smile. Getting coffee here was a lovely way to start to day. Best of luck, Monica!
I have been getting coffee from MoMo for at least 10 years. She is simply the best and will be greatly missed.
