On the List | January Capitol Hill Art Walk, MLK, Bowie

This weekend around Capitol Hill brings the January edition of the revamped art walk, and remembrances of two great men of peace and love with MLK celebrations and David Bowie tributes.

In December, we told you about the overhauled effort around the Capitol Hill Art Walk with a financial boost from the Capitol Hill Block Party, Starbucks, and the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce and an artistic life from Ghost Gallery. Witness the fruits of their labor this second Thursday:

Make sure to stop by 12th Ave’s Artist Trust happy hour as they kick off their 30th anniversary celebrations. Meanwhile, John Bavaro’s BrainTree continues at Cloud Gallery or you can check out the work of video game artist Chris Alderson at Revival on Broadway. You can find a complete listing at capitolhillartwalk.com.

Thursday also brings King County’s annual celebration of the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. to the Paramount. The MLK weekend includes the 11th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. march Saturday, an open house at the Northwest African American Museum, and a MLK Day work party at the Capitol Hill Tool Library.

The Bowie tributes continue. Friday, Victrola 15th hosts a Bowie Memorial while a David Bowie Tribute / Sing Along takes place Saturday night at the Highline. And you may want to score your tickets now to January 23rd’s School of Rock tribute to Bowie at Chop Suey.
