‘Person of interest’ in Broadway/Pike shooting charged with federal gun crime

A “person of interest” identified in the immediate aftermath of the November 22nd drive-by shooting that injured five people at Broadway and Pike has been arrested and charged with a federal gun crime.

Deonte Rasul-Chiono was first linked to the Capitol Hill shooting after surveillance video captured images of the silver car involved in the attack:

The 23-year-old was taken into custody in operations involving members of the ATF-powered Puget Sound Regional Gun Crime Task Force, according to court documents. The Seattle PI broke the news on the arrest Wednesday.

A three-time convicted felon, Rasul-Chiono has been charged with unlawful gun possession in U.S. District Court. He has not been charged in the Broadway/Pike shooting.

In the wake of the November shooting, Mayor Ed Murray and East Precinct commander Capt. Paul McDonagh attempted to address community concerns about nightlife violence in the area, saying weekend emphasis patrols in the Pike/Pine neighborhood would continue and new resources to help free up officer time for more serious crimes would be deployed in coming months.
