Police closed off the parking lot at the Midtown Center Friday morning after reports of gunfire in the shopping strip near 23rd and Union.

There were no reports of injuries and it’s not yet known if any buildings or vehicles in the area were damaged, a SPD spokesperson tells CHS. Police and the SPD’s gang unit were collecting evidence at the scene.

The reports of up to seven shots came in just before 11 AM. Witnesses described a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting that left the scene. Police were searching for the car — we don’t have a description of the vehicle.

There were no immediate reports of arrests.

The sales process for the Midtown Center land is coming to a culmination as buyers have emerged to develop the block-long property.

Don’t worry, Ed Murray will soon have a levy proposal to solve this.

If there were a levy to fix this problem I would happily pay it.

I’d laugh, but Murray has proven he’s capable of it.

SPD could start by investigating the cars and people who hang out there dealing and using drugs in plain view all day, everyday.

That would be an attack on the historic legacy of the neighborhood.

The best cure for this will be the new development. An empty bldg with an accessible parking lot is practically an invitation to drug dealing.

Development won’t cure anything. It may be good for this area but it won’t stop criminals from criminal activity. They will just do it elsewhere. These fools need to be caught, charged and punished.

Unfortunately true. It will only be the cure for *this intersection*. Will probably result in more shootouts at Jackson & 23rd, until that redevelops. Then the neighborhoods will bear the brunt of it.

Whoa there Timmy, we’re not done catching, charging and punishing SPD yet.
I’m sure they are more than willing to jump at the chance at fighting it out with these guys.
Let’s go for development instead.

SPD has started their crackdown on criminals living in car campers and RV and using these vehicles for their criminal operation.

Quite a haul from drugs, weapons, CASH, stolen property to various folks on escaped warrant charges.

It’s starting to come together. What we are seeing all over the city isn’t a figment of our imagination. Hope SPD will keep this up.
