Seattle Police were investigating a likely homicide in Madison Valley Tuesday morning after a woman was found shot to death inside a home just off E Madison St.

Seattle Police and Fire crews responded to reports of a shooting at 9:20 AM near E Arthur Pl. and 29th Ave. where they found the victim. A passerby called 911 and reported a woman appeared to have been shot inside the home, according to SPD. According to radio dispatches, the passerby could see the victim down inside the house through an open door. There was blood and bullet casings at the scene.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to SFD radio reports. The block surrounding the scene remained closed off in the hours after the woman was found.

No suspect has been identified in the case. Those with information on the incident are being asked to contact police.

UPDATE 5:30 PM: The victim’s family gathered at the house Tuesday night. She has been identified as Trina Bolar, 51. “She was a lovable, huggable person,” said Hollis Simmons, the victim’s brother. “Whatever took place is wrong.” Bolar is a grandmother, family said.

Neighbors said they heard what they thought were firecrackers around 1 AM. Police are continuing to investigate and have not yet publicly identified a suspect or person of interest in the case.

One neighbor said Bolar was a friendly, familiar face on the block. Her brother said she liked to volunteer and sometimes took people in who were struggling.

Odd that a passerby would know someone was shot inside the home. Maybe the door was open and the person visible? How sad. I lived on 29th back in the days when the pizza place had bullet proof glass and we heard gunfire all night long. These days the valley is pretty darned quiet so this is surprising. I wonder if it’s a domestic violence incident. Rest in peace, neighbor. I’m so sad for you and your loved ones.
