Police focused their search Tuesday night on the nearby Capitol Hill Station after a man held up the drugstore across the street in the second reported armed robbery of its type on the block in the past week.

According to East Precinct radio dispatches, the suspect was wearing a ski mask as he walked into the Broadway Rite Aid around 8:30 PM and handed employees a note demanding cash and threatening that he was carrying a Glock pistol in his pocket. The man reportedly apologized as he fled the store carrying a bag full of money. No weapon was seen. There were no reported injuries.

Tuesday night, officers could be seen checking the light rail facility following the robbery searching for the suspect described as a black male in his 30s, around 250 pounds, and wearing Oakley sunglasses and a black jacket.

The method and physical description matches what victims told police about a similar robbery at Broadway and Thomas last Friday.

That night, just after 7 PM, a man described as a black male, around 250 pounds, wearing sunglasses and a black Carhartt jacket entered the Bank of America and handed over a note demanding cash and threatening that he had a gun. In that hold-up, the suspect was also apologetic as he fled with a bag of cash and no weapon was seen. Police were also seen searching Capitol Hill Station following that hold-up.

SPD robbery detectives are investigating.
