Capitol Hill Community Post | Survey: Central Ridge & Lowell-Meany Neighborhood Greenways – Route Options

Thank you for taking the time to give us your input. This questionnaire is open through May 17, 2017.

What’s a neighborhood greenway?
Neighborhood greenways are safer, calmer residential streets for you, your family, neighbors and customers. On streets with low car volumes and speeds, a greenway can:

  • Improve safety
  • Help people cross busy streets
  • Discourage cut-through traffic
  • Protect the residential character of our neighborhoods
  • Keep speeds low
  • Get people to where they want to go; places like parks, schools, shops and restaurants

My street was recently converted to a greenway – while I had no opposition at all to this and actually like the speed bumps, can tell you that:

it has done absolutely nothing to discourage cut through traffic… we get pretty much just as much now as we did before and had a HUGE increase during the 23rd construction…

certainly hasn’t done anything to help protect the residential character of the neighborhood, which is currently under serious threat from the HALA rezone – which is conveniently ignoring the greenway and recommending apartment buildings for this area…

it hasn’t really slowed people down much- now they just go faster between the bumps or scrape them… it can be amusing to sit out on the porch and rate people’s crunches.. the stop signs on the cross streets actually have made crossing the street more hazardous, because 99% of drivers simply run them, often at full speed.
