A Capitol Hill restaurant’s night off turned out to be a right place, right time situation along Seattle’s waterfront just after midnight Monday morning.

During an outing planned as a very Seattle morale event — a night of squid jigging on Elliott Bay — chef Shota Nakajima and employees from 15th and Pine’s Adana were fishing when they heard a splash and someone yelling for help near Seattle’s Great Wheel.

Nakajima and his crew put down their poles and found an emergency situation involving a woman in the water. They helped until police could arrive and remove her form the cold waters of Elliott Bay.

According to Seattle Fire, the 25-year-old woman had been in the water for about 10 minutes before being rescued. She was taken to Harborview in serious condition. SPD records show the incident involved a woman suffering a mental crisis.

Nakajima described the incident in a post to his Instagram account:

Tonight we closed the restaurant early for some team bonding squidding. While squidding heard a splash and then someone yelling help by the great wheel. @a.ingersoll @chrism.hoey @__feastmode__ @jcwright22 @frenchdope_bocuse all of us booked it over to help her out and did the best we can with climbing down the ladder trying to get her out of the water, throwing ropes down and doing everything we can to help save her until the cops came. She was helped out of the water in good care. I’m the luckiest bastard to be surrounded by these people who won’t think twice to help someone.
