Blotter | Broadway restaurant assault, Judkins Park shooting, Howe Street Steps fall

  • Broadway restaurant assault: A man was arrested at the Broadway Tacos Guaymas Sunday afternoon after police say stabbed an employee in the hand during a struggle to remove him from the restaurant:

    Officers responded to a restaurant in the 1500 block of Broadway shortly after 3:00 pm Sunday. According to witnesses, the suspect entered the restaurant and began to act erratically. He demanded that employees give him money. The employees asked the suspect to leave, but he refused. The employees attempted to escort the suspect out of the restaurant, but the suspect grabbed a knife and stabbed one of the employees in the hand. The employees were able to hold the suspect down until police officers arrived and took him into custody.

    The 34-year-old was booked into King County Jail for investigation of robbery and assault. The employee’s injury suffered during the just after 3 PM melee was described as minor.

  • Judkins Park shooting: Police fanned out across the neighborhood around Judkins Park Sunday night after officers reported seeing a car leaving the area firing shots near 30th and Judkins. One man was shot and a dog also shot in the incident died, police said. By the time the search for suspects and a possible victim was complete, police had pieced together a home invasion robbery involving “a large amount” of cash stolen from a safe inside a residence in the area:

    Witnesses called 911 Sunday night to report masked men had forced their way into a home in the 1100 block of 29 Avenue South. Officers responding to the call heard multiple gunshots in the area just prior to their arrival. Officers rushed into the home and found a man who had been shot twice and a dog that had been shot and killed, but no sign of the suspects.

    According to police radio dispatches, the incident began around 9:30 PM when the gunfire and a man seen staggering believed to have been hit brought a large SPD response to the area. Police searched area yards for the victim before being called to a residence near 30th and Judkins where a 911 caller reported seeing men carrying what appeared to be a body and doing chest compressions in the back of a vehicle. Police arrived to find the residents attempting to resuscitate the dog that had been shot. According to police, the male victim they were finally able to locate suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Harborview. There were no reported arrests. SPD is asking any witnesses with information about the incident to call robbery detectives at (206) 684-5535.

  • Howe steps fall: Seattle Fire was called to Broadway above the Howe Street Steps after a report that a woman had suffered a serious fall Sunday morning. Units arrived to the 10 AM incident in which a woman in her 30s was reported to have fallen approximately 20 steps on the steep route on the west slope of Capitol Hill. The woman was transported to Harborview for treatment of her injuries.
