  • Broadway crisis: A suspect believed to be suffering a mental crisis or under the influence of drugs was taken into custody Tuesday on Broadway after 911 callers reported a violent assault and a man running through the street wrapped in a blanket and carrying a large knife. Police were called to the area around 11:45 AM Tuesday following the initial report that the man was sitting on top of a woman in a dispute near 10th and Pike. He was then reportedly seen on Broadway carrying a large knife. Police found the suspect inside the Freddy Junior’s restaurant where he was taken into custody and the knife was recovered. During a struggle with police, the suspect had a “spit sock” to prevent spitting or biting placed over his head. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. There were no reports of serious injuries in the incident.
  • Cal Anderson basketball robbery: A 36-year-old has been charged with first degree robbery in a March 18th incident on the basketball court at Cal Anderson Park. The Seattle PI reports that Patrick Johnson faces charges after disrupting a pick-up game on the court:

The alleged knife-wielding occurred about 1:52 p.m. March 18, according to court records. Johnson reportedly walked up to the game in progress and attempted to grab the basketball after a missed shot. When one of the players notified him that they were playing 2-on-2, Johnson allegedly yelled, “I don’t f**king care, give me that ball, I want that ball, I need to pop the ball.”

According to Seattle Police, the players said Johnson pulled out a knife and refused to give the ball back even after they offered to give him another ball. The suspect then demanded a football he saw in one of the player’s bags. When the player refused, Johnson is alleged to have chased him around the court. Police say the players ran from the scene and called 911. Johnson was taken into custody nearby. He is currently held on $200,000 bail.

  • Restaurant ‘heavy rescue’: Seattle Fire initiated a “heavy rescue” response in a Monday morning incident at the Ba Bar restaurant on 12th Ave that fortunately turned out to be less serious than first thought. According to SFD radio, units were dispatched to the address when a man was reported stuck in a “grinder” inside the restaurant. The patient’s arm was quickly freed, however, and he suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident.
  • Pike/Minor crash: A motor scooter rider suffered non-life threatening injuries Tuesday night in a collision with a Ford Mustang just after 9 PM near the Starbucks Roastery and Pike and Minor. Seattle Fire and SPD were at the scene and the street was blocked during the response. The rider was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

“A suspect believed to be suffering a mental crisis or under the influence of drugs was taken into custody Tuesday”

Statistics say…. both.

Looks like drug-fueled knife mayhem is making any early appearance on the Hill this year.

Violent, spitting & high basketball robber guy with knife is a prime example of how lenient our judicial system has become, even when it comes to crimes committed with dangerous weapons. In the past 10 months alone, KC Jail records show Patrick Johnson has been arrested 8 times – for: felony harassment, DUI, unlawful use of a weapon, drugs, drug paraphenelia, multiple assault charges – and now robbery.

This notion that criminals like are being oppressed by “the system” is such a joke.
