  • Cal Anderson beating: Police arrested three teens early Wednesday after a 1:30 AM beating assault on a 13-year-old girl inside Cal Anderson Park:

    Two East Precinct officers on a foot beat in Cal Anderson park Wednesday at 1:30 a.m saw a group of ten people in some type of disturbance and approached the group. As the officers got close the group of people scattered leaving behind a 13-year-old girl who was bleeding from the face. One of the officers chased the group who they believed to be responsible for the injuries to the girl while the other officer remained behind to tend to the victim’s injuries. The first officer was able to corner three of the suspects in an alley 1000 block of East Denny Way. Officers determined that the 19-year-old female suspect had participated in the assault based on the victim’s blood being found on the suspect’s clothing as well as statements made to officers. Officers also arrested a 19-year-old man for being a felon in possession of a firearm after they discovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver in his pocket. Finally, officers arrested the third person, an 18-year-old man, for obstructing and will work with the prosecutor’s office to determine if any other charges will be filed.

    Police say the victim was taken to Harborview for treatment of injuries to her face and head.

  • Broadway bank hold-up: Police made one arrest after flooding the area around the Wells Fargo in the 400 block of Broadway E just after noon last Thursday after a reported robbery attempt. According to the SPD report on the incident, the man threatened a teller and demanded money:
    Employees were able to trigger a “panic button” to call police. The suspect was located in the Broadway Market and taken into custody.
  • ATM gunpoint robbery: A man told police he was robbed at gunpoint early last Thursday morning as he withdrew $100 from the Bank of America ATM at 13th and Madison:
    The robbery took place just before 6 AM as the victim was headed to work nearby. He told officers he was “unable to provide further description of the suspect or gun other than a white male with goatee and mustache, approximately 5’06” to 5’07” and a large black gun,” according to police. A search of the area that included a K-9 dog unit did not locate the suspect.
  • First Hill hatchet vs. car: An early Wednesday, February 28th incident illustrates some of the dangers of driving around First Hill at 5 in the morning after a Harborview doctor had his car’s windshield smashed by a man with a hatchet:
    The doctor told police he thought insurance would cover the damage “and that he just wanted the police to know there was someone around the area with a hatchet,” according to the SPD report on the incident. There were no reported injuries and police were unable to locate the suspect.
  • E Mercer hazmat: Seattle Fire hazardous materials units were dispatched to E Mercer just below 23rd Ave last Friday afternoon after a suspicious substance was reported inside a vehicle parked in the neighborhood. The block around the car was cordoned off around 3 PM as the hazmat team tested the powdery substance. After a brief investigation, the scene was quickly cleared when it was determined that the material was some sort of flour and not hazardous.
