Police chase down suspect in Cal Anderson gun threat inside Broadway smoke shop

Police made one arrest and there was quite a scene Wednesday afternoon as cops flooded the block of Broadway between Pike and Pine after a man who had reportedly made threats with a handgun in Cal Anderson Park ran inside a nearby business.

According to the SPD report on the incident, police were called to the area around 4:45 PM after a caller reported a man had made threats and shown a handgun near the Cal Anderson basketball courts. As police searched for the suspect described as a white male with red hair in his 40s, a man matching the description was seen fleeing into Capitol Hill Tobacco in the 1500 block of Broadway.

Police entered the business and quickly emerged with the suspect in custody.

No firearm was recovered but police say the man was wearing a shoulder holster and had two magazines for a gas-powered pellet gun. He was arrested and booked for investigation of felony harassment.
