The Capitol Hill Block Party has announced its full slate of 100+ acts for the music festival that fills E Pike every July. Included in the update is a new headliner to close down the 2018 edition of the event with a Sunday night of psychedelic rock.

New Zealand’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra leads the roster of new names added Wednesday to the 2018 CHBP lineup. Producers also announced some of the plans for adjoining fun at this year’s festival including DJ sets, “activation” of the Chophouse Row development on the edge of the festival’s footprint, and “wellness programs” like morning yoga and workout classes.

Producers rolled out the initial 2018 lineup including headliner Father John Misty in March. The 2018 event runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 20th through 22nd.

In 2017, Diplo, and Run the Jewels led the way as the festival celebrated 21 years on E Pike.  In 2016, the Block Party marked 20(ish) years on E Pike — though some locals claim a longer timeline for the event back to its free, less organized, un-fenced days. While the outdoor footprint of the festival hasn’t changed in recent years, the 2016 Block Party was also marked by extending the event into more venues around the Pike/Pine core.

Last year, producer Jason Lajeunesse and partners invested in a new sound and light system, and overhaul of the festival’s club centerpiece venue, Neumos.

“This year we’re adding new experiences that build upon the holistic cultural experience and energy of the festival and neighborhood. We’re excited to introduce a host of new surprises and additions, such as the Chop House Row stage, a silent disco, community speakers, morning yoga and workout classes, a photography show, CHBP AFTER DARK parties, and hopefully a skate jam competition,” Lajeunesse says in the announcement of the full 2018 lineup. “And of course, tons of great bands and local food. This year’s lineup has a diverse mix of fantastic headliners and emerging talent.”

2018’s festival comes as the City of Seattle is considering new fees for events like Capitol Hill Block Party that pay to utilize city resources including on-duty police officers. As a “commercial event,” CHBP was charged around $16,000 for 249 hours of police services in 2016. “Actual SPD wages for this event, including upstaffing in the area (i.e., police emphasis work), were $124,502 for 1,773 hours worked,” a city auditor report on the costs reads.
