You can now experience a little bit of South Capitol Hill German heritage nestled among the Alps of Washington.
Rhein Haus, the German beer hall and bowling concept born on 12th Ave in the winter of 2013, is now open in Leavenworth.
“The new location won’t have bocce ball, but they’re making up for it with a 3,000 square-foot biergarten deck that can hold around 170 people, so we forgive them,” Seattle Met reports. “The second-story deck will have heated floors, big tables with built-in fireplaces, and unobstructed mountain views, so patrons can sit back and pretend the Washington Cascades are actually the jagged, eternally snow-capped Bavarian Alps.”
Rhein Haus debuted in February 2013 as Von Trapp’s as a “Bavarian-inspired bier hall” with with five indoor bocce courts, two mezzanines, three bars, and a fireside “bier den” from the folks behind the Poquitos family of restaurants. Legal issues amid complaints from a member of the famous Trapp family, owners of the Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont, inspired ownership to take on an expensive rebranding in 2014,
Like the 12th Ave original and its sibling locations in Tacoma and Denver, the Leavenworth Rhein Haus is a major investment for ownership and founders James Weimann and Rich Fox. The new Rhein Haus weighs in at two stories and 3,700 square feet and is styled as a mountain lodge complete with walls decorated with wooden skis and mounted trophy elk.
The new Rhein Haus Leavenworth is located at 707 Highway 2. You can plan your road trip and learn more at facebook.com/rheinhausleavenworth.

A shitty bro bar in Capitol Hill, now also open in the shitty bro town of Leavenworth.
Considering the rebranding happened in 2014, it would appear that the separate business which opened up in Denver (rheinhausdenver) in 2015, may have ripped off their signage. They were featured in an episode of Top Chef Colorado and I assumed the two businesses were related but apparently not.
They are the same owners, “Since opening Poquitos in 2011 they have gone on to open three Rhein Haus locations in Seattle, Denver, and Tacoma;”

The whole South Capitol Hill thing bugs me. I’ve seen apartments on 18th and Union and as far down as 23rd marketed and such and also the South Slope of Capitol Hill.
23rd and Union is East Capitol Hill :)
