Free and cheap weekend on Capitol Hill includes Linda’s Fest, Acoustic Festival, and cops making you hot dogs at the East Precinct Picnic

You’ve paid your dues on Capitol Hill this summer. Time to cash in. Last weekend brought the neighborhood’s free Mercer X Summit Block Party to the streets on the Hill’s western slope. There is more freebie — and cheapie — fun to come this weekend as Linda’s Fest is set to again rock E Pine, there’s a movie in Cal Anderson, and the cops want you to come to their picnic. Information on all of this and more, below.

Saturday night, Linda’s Fest celebrates its ninth edition with a bill including Sandrider and Helms Alee. As usual, the event is free and includes a solidly local lineup. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate excellent construction practices and good windows. The seven-story apartment building that now rises above Linda’s patio hasn’t put an end to the annual party.

Before you head out to Linda’s, Friday night brings the second of three outdoor movie screenings from Three Dollar Bill Cinema in Cal Anderson Park this month:

New York-based artist, filmmaker, and general experimenter Ying Liu is in town at Northwest Film Forum for the weekend and will be hosting a screening of an interactive workshop about Capitol Hill that she has casted right here on Capitol Hill:

On Broadway at All Pilgrims, the Seattle Acoustic Festival returns for its fifth annual weekend of free music:

Finally, Saturday also brings free hot dogs. The East Precinct will shut down 12th Ave in front of its headquarters for a free community picnic. You’ll get lunch — and the opportunity to watch children play with riot gear. Don’t miss it.
