Kurt Farm Shop’s ice cream man staying, for now, in ‘the center of ice cream for the city’

Kurt Timmermeister turned the proceeds from his sale of the legendary Septieme into his now-legendary Kurtwood Farm on Vashon Island.

Now Timmermeister is considering the sale of his latest Capitol Hill creation but he tells CHS not to worry about Kurt Farm Shop’s ice creamy goodness going anywhere anytime soon.

“I have had a great summer at the Farm Shop with such a long, hot summer that continues,” Timmermeister tells CHS. “Although I did mention it to someone, I have no plans to sell at this time. The neighborhood has become the center of ice cream for the city and I am loving being a part of it.”

The man knows his Capitol Hill ice cream. The neighborhood is now home to the densest accumulation of frozen treats in Seattle after yet another player joined the scene earlier this year when Salt and Straw brought its mix of Portland and Seattle flavors to E Pike. In January, Full Tilt and its pinball machines brought their game to 15th Ave E. Capitol Hill and the nearby’s now robust ice cream and frozen delights roster runs strong: Sugar Plum, Molly Moon’s (x2), Menchie’sOld School, Cupcake Royale, TroveRachel’s Ginger Beer, and even Chuck’s offer ice cream or frozen soft-serve. Meanwhile, plant-based ice cream shop Frankie and Jo’s debuted in late 2016, while the Central District Ice Company followed closely behindBluebird Ice Cream, meanwhile, has been looking for a new Capitol Hill home.

Seattle Eater reported on the Kurt Farm Shop sale opportunity after it was posted to a local business network’s email list.

Known for championing the farm-to-table movement, Timmermeister opened the tiny shop on Chophouse Row in 2011 as a small but delicious showcase for the dairy goodness produced by his Vashon herd. In 2016, he led the way on a hugely successful but not repeated ice cream festival at Chophouse Row.

While Timmermeister tells CHS he doesn’t have any plans for a sale of Kurt Farm Shop at this time, the episode is a reminder of the cold, hard situation around any Capitol Hill food+drink venue. If there’s a buyer, everything is for sale.

Kurt’s Farm Shop ice cream is $4 a scoop. Knowing that the ingredients come from his Vashon farm, (including the milk from his Jersey cows) and is made on site makes it worth every penny!
